Mohammed Zahur Khayyam: Biography and Music Career

Mohammed Zahur Khayyam is popularly known as the Khayyam. He was among the veteran music director composer of Indian music industry. His magnum opus includes movies like; Umrao Jaan, Kabhi Kabhie, Razia Sultan etc. Khayyam saab was awarded  Padma Bhushan the third highest Civilian Award of India in 2011.

Khayyam saab was born as Sa'aadat Hussain (सआदत हुसैन) Nawanshahr District in undivided Punjab on 18 February 1927. He was forced to do study in Delhi but he was fond of music so he went to Lahore to learn music from the famous Baba Chishti.

Khayyam got famous from songs of Film Shola Aur Shabnam (written by Kaifi Azmi) . This movie established Khayyam's reputation as a great composer.
In the 1970s Khayyam saab team up with Sahir Ludhyanvi to work in the Yash Chopra-directed Kabhi Kabhie.Songs like "Kabhi Kabhi mere dil mein Khayal ata hai" (Sung by Mukesh), "Tere chehre se nazar Nahin hat-ti" (Kishore & Lata) and "Mein Pal do pal ka Shayar Hun" (Mukesh) peaked up his versatility and talent in the world.
One of the most famous song of Khayyam saab is 
"Kabhi kabhi mere dil mein khayaal aata hai,
Ki jaise tujhko banaya gaya hai mere liye,
Tu ab se pehle sitaaron mein bas rahi thi kahin,
Tujhe zameen pe bulaya gaya hai mere liye,
Kabhi kabhi mere dil mein khayal aata hai".
Khayyam announced the formation of a charitable trust — Khayyam Jagjeet Kaur KPG Charitable Trust on his 89th birthday. He donated his 10 cr net worth to this trust to support new artists and technicians in India. 
In addition to a great musician he was a very patriotic person because after the Pulwama attack he decided not to celebrate his birthday.
So the death of Khayyam the great musician is not only a lose to the Indian film industry but also to the India as a whole.
